Ethnic costumes are multicultural rather than political manifestations

At the just concluded two sessions, the representatives and members of the NPC and CPPCC from ethnic minorities in our country have become colorful and colorful ethnic costumes and have become the scenery of various venues. Some ethnic costumes in the middle are clothing in daily life, but some ethnic costumes are worn only in their history. They are usually kept in museums or used on stage performances. The representatives of these ethnic minorities and their members wear national costumes and, most importantly, show the outside world the exercise of their rights to participate in the political affairs of ethnic groups in our ethnic policy. During the mid-1980s, while studying in the Central University for Nationalities, I had many times and classmates were asked to wear national costumes to the Great Hall of the People to participate in some large-scale political activities. Our role is to represent the national minorities as an external representative. Prove that all ethnic minorities participate equally in all kinds of political activities. My later siblings, school girls also repeatedly experience the same scenario. Nowadays, domestic news can often be seen. Some leaders inspected the ethnic areas, in the laboratories, production frontlines, and offices of the government. There are bound to be ethnic minorities dressed in ethnic costumes and leaders together in television pictures or photos. Every time I see these I will laugh, I know one of the national costumes are "to be" worn. Because in reality, regardless of what ethnic groups in these places are sure to wear professional overalls, but can not be national costumes. Like other folk customs of a nation, clothing also has historical changes. Now who can say what the national costume Han? Hanfu? Robe jacket? Chinese tunic suit? Cheongsam is a Manchu national costume, has now become one of the symbols of traditional Chinese culture, like most of the cheongsam is no longer a Manchu. Suit is also exotic, but now has become formal wear, we do not wear a suit that recognized the West to accept everything. Why, then, why ethnic minorities are endowed with a political meaning and labeled as a political symbol so that once they are cured and secondarily misread? In our country, there were times when we decided to judge our political position with personal dress. Some Western media also used Chinese leaders' dresses to judge the course of Chinese politics. Facts have proved that these are wrong. In fact, what kind of dress to wear is entirely a matter of personal choice, there is no need to rise to the point of political symbols. The achievements of our national policy do not need to be displayed with the help of the props of national costumes. Otherwise, only the pan-politicized imagination of national costumes will be triggered, which will adversely affect the actual work. Ethnic costumes are the product of practicality and beauty of costumes by all ethnic groups and also the personal choice of members of various nationalities. The best way to do this is to respect individual self-selection. Wearing this national dress does not mean that we are self-enclosed and are not willing to accept the excellent composition of other ethnic groups. In order to eliminate the political color of national costumes and return the national costumes to the original purpose of personal articles, we can put an end to the trend of political instrumentalization of national costumes. In short, whether ethnic minorities wear national costumes in various places should completely become their personal choice. Ethnic costumes should be expressions of multiculturalism rather than political discourses.
