Shanghai service dissatisfaction Pierre Cardin refers to the "six crimes"

In the early hours of yesterday, Wenzhou businessman Sun Xiaofei submitted a trademark transfer application for Pierre Cardin to the State Trademark Office. According to Sun, he and his team have officially acquired the rights to the Pierre Cardin trademarks covering knitwear and leather shoes. However, this development has triggered a new wave of controversy, as Shanghai Service, a company that had previously been involved in acquiring the brand, announced its intention to sue Pierre Cardin. Shanghai Service's manager, Yao Yuming, stated that the company plans to take legal action against the French designer, citing multiple violations. This move has thrown the situation into further confusion, as it appears that two different parties are claiming ownership over the same brand. While Sun Xiaofei insists that the acquisition was conducted through proper channels and without interference, Shanghai Service argues that only they were officially approved by the National Development and Reform Commission to acquire the trademarks. According to Sun, the process began in November last year, with direct meetings in Paris and formal agreements signed in April, July, and September. He emphasized that no third party was involved during the transaction, and that their company is a private enterprise, which does not require approval from Chinese government departments. In contrast, Shanghai Service claims that they had been working on the acquisition since March 2009, and were officially approved by the National Development and Reform Commission in August. They also set up a subsidiary in Paris to facilitate the deal. The dispute has raised concerns about legal and ethical issues. Shanghai Service accuses Pierre Cardin of engaging in unfair business practices, including misleading negotiations, infringing on the rights of local agents, and potentially manipulating the market for personal gain. They also claim that the use of fake foreign currency could lead to regulatory scrutiny. Sun Xiaofei, however, maintains that his actions are fully legal and transparent. His company, Chenglong Co., Ltd., was established with the support of several Wenzhou businessmen and has already begun operating in China. The company is now working to rebuild the domestic sales network and prepare for the re-launch of the Pierre Cardin brand. Meanwhile, Shanghai Service continues to assert that it represents the interests of the majority of Pierre Cardin’s local agents, who have long-standing relationships with the brand. They argue that these agents hold significant advantages in terms of market presence and distribution, and that the sudden entry of a new player like Chenglong could disrupt the existing sales structure and cause economic instability. As the situation unfolds, both sides remain firm in their positions, and the future of the Pierre Cardin brand in China remains uncertain.
