50 Years of Donation of Works of the China Art Museum

The upcoming Spring Festival is drawing near, and the China Art Museum has launched a special exhibition titled "50 Years of Donations – China Museum of Fine Art Exhibition" on the 26th. This carefully curated event offers a rich cultural experience for audiences celebrating the Lunar New Year, showcasing a remarkable collection of artworks donated over five decades. The exhibition features an impressive array of pieces, including classical works from the Ming and Qing dynasties, such as those by the Eight Great Masters, Shi Tao, Qiu Ying, and Shen Zhou, all donated by Deng Tuo. It also includes modern masterpieces by renowned artists like Pan Tianshou, Zhao Wangyun, Ye Qianyu, Jiang Zhaohe, and Li Kuchan. The oil painting section highlights contributions from pioneers such as Wang Yuezhi, Chen Baoyi, and Pan Yuliang, as well as later generations like Wu Guanzhong, Zhu Dequn, Yan Shangyi, Lin Gang, Su Tianci, and Su Gaoli. Additionally, prints by Qi Su Wang Qi, Yan Han, Li Qun, and Zhao Yannian, along with cartoons by Hua Junwu, Zhang Leping, and Liao Bingxiong, are on display. Folk art works from Wang Shucun and others add to the diversity and richness of the collection. What makes this exhibition unique is its curatorial approach. Rather than simply displaying artworks, it emphasizes the donors themselves, tracing the history of donations through the years. Due to the vast number of works, only a fraction could be displayed, and each donor contributed just a few selected pieces. The current exhibit features 89 representative donors, showcasing traditional Chinese paintings, oil paintings, prints, sculptures, lacquer paintings, sketches, cartoons, and folk arts. According to reports, this exhibition is just a glimpse into the museum’s extensive collection. More works, including international donations, will be unveiled in the future. The exhibition will run until February 26, offering visitors a chance to explore a treasure trove of artistic heritage. On the same day, the National Art Museum of China also opened the “Rabbit Year Art Exhibition,” highlighting the 50-year donation legacy of the China Art Museum. Designed in the 1950s, the museum was completed in 1961 and has since served as a key institution for national art collection and exhibitions. Over the years, it has received numerous generous donations from artists, scholars, and collectors across the country. This year's exhibition features more than 800 works spanning various mediums, reflecting the museum’s 50-year journey and its role in preserving and promoting China’s artistic legacy.
