What are the characteristics of fabrics with different fibers?

The nature of the fiber is the fundamental factor that determines the performance of the fabric. Therefore, fabrics of different types of fibers have their own unique properties.
(1) The main features of cotton fiber are its fineness and fineness, its moderate length, its softness and natural twisting, its good moisture absorption and warmth properties, and its ability to spin not only medium and coarse yarns but also fine yarns. It works well with alkali to obtain a "mercerized" effect with good dyeing properties. For this reason, the cotton fabric has excellent softness, warmth, moisture absorption, breathability, and comfortable wearing performance. Its main drawback is poor wrinkle recovery performance.
(2) The main characteristics of wool fibers are natural curling, low initial modulus, low bending stiffness, strong elastic recovery force, and low thermal conductivity; the moisture absorption of wool is the highest among natural fibers, and the moisture is also good; wool fiber surface There are scales, so that the wool fabric has a shrinkage and make the fabric glossy and soft, wool fiber has a good affinity for dyes, so the color of the wool fabric is also more beautiful. Wool fabrics are stiff and elastic, soft and bodily, smooth (smooth) and plump, these are the so-called "feather styling."
(3) The natural silk is slender and soft, with a smooth surface, elasticity, strong hygroscopicity, and a gorgeous, noble luster. Silk has good affinity for dyes, elasticity is better than cotton fibers, and silk fabrics are less likely to wrinkle than cotton fabrics. Therefore, the silk fabric has characteristics of smoothness, firmness, coolness, lightness, and drape.
(4) Hemp fiber is characterized by high strength, high stiffness, strong hygroscopicity, and rapid moisture release. The disadvantage is the small elasticity and elongation. The woven fabric is stiff, breathable and easily absorbs sweat from the body and rapidly releases it.
(5) Chemical fiber: There are many kinds of chemical fibers and they are developing rapidly. With each passing day, fiber types are different, and the performance of fabrics varies greatly. The following are widely used.
1 viscose fiber: nature close to cotton, but the strength is worse than cotton, especially wet strength is low, the elongation is large and the recovery performance is small, the stiffness is small, the hand is soft, the moisture absorption is strong, the air permeability is good, the dyeing is good. Therefore, the viscose fabric is soft, comfortable to wear, bright in color, and drape well. The disadvantage is the lack of body bones and "floating" feeling. Easy to fold deformation, shrinkage rate, poor dimensional stability.
2 Polyester fiber: high strength, good elasticity, strong wear resistance, large initial modulus when stretched, good rigidity, and strong deformation recovery performance. Polyester fabric is stiff, elastic, dimensionally stable, fast, and excellent in crease resistance. The disadvantages are poor hygroscopicity, easy generation of static electricity, fabric contamination, poor air permeability, and sulkingness. However, it is easy to wash, quick-dry, and easy to burn. It has the reputation of “washing and wearing”.
